Please join us on Monday, September 27th at 6:30 pm for Prison Pipeline on KBOO Community Radio as we talk with Elle Stanger, Maxine Doogan and Brandy about the campaign to decriminalize sex work in Oregon.   This summer Representative Rob Knosse helped co-sponsor a resolution to decriminalize sex work in the state of Oregon.  Although the resolution never made it to the floor, the campaign to decriminalize sex work is still active.  Organizers are considering bringing it directly to the voters as a ballot measure and in the meantime, they are continuing their campaign for public education.

Elle Stanger with the group Oregon Sex Workers has worked as a stripper and contact sex worker and identifies as a non-binary femme.  Maxine Doogan representing the group Erotic Service Providers Legal Education has worked as a prostitute for 30 years.  Brandy is a single mom and survivor of human trafficking and works as a full-service sex worker and escort.

According to the Oregon Sex Workers website, sex work should be decriminalized because consensual adult sex work is a viable work option that helps people who need to have a flexible job. Sex workers’ human rights cannot be fully realized with criminal laws that threaten their access to justice, health, and social services. Decriminalization decreases human trafficking and decriminalization decreases health risks.

Prison Pipeline is a radio program dedicated to educating the public about the Oregon criminal justice system. Our goal is to present a unique understanding of the criminal justice system, address the root causes of crime, and challenge the status quo. We seek to promote awareness and activism in order to foster a safe, healthy, and just society. Tune in every Monday at 6:30 P.M. to hear our hosts Karen James, Adam Carpinelli, Amy Johnson, Emma Lugo, Doug McVay and Isabelle Sinclar explore the Oregon justice system with a variety of guests.
