KBOO Reporter Lizard speaks with Peter Bauer, the organizer of 9th Annual North American Rewilding Conference, taking place in Portland on January 23–25, 2026. at Bridgespace Commons, 133 SE Madison St, Portland OR 97214. Bauer says, the mission of the Rewilding Conference is to unite the many individuals, groups, and institutions who are working hard under the banner of “rewilding” to restore the earth’s ecosystems and the human place therein.
Then, as outrage grows over the fatal shooting of a Minneapolis woman by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer, civil rights attorney Mark Reichle is speaking out and warning that the killing raises serious constitutional concerns about ICE authority and the use of deadly force. Reichle, a founding member of the ACLU Sacramento chapter and an attorney with more than three decades of experience in constitutional and civil rights law, says video evidence shows the woman was acting within her legal rights and posed no lawful justification for lethal force. He spoke with KPFA’s Lauren Schmitt.
We end on a few minutes from this morning's Portland City Council Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the first of the new year. Councilors discussed funding crunches for transportation and infrastrucutre projects, since the Trump administration has pulled back from many of their funding commitments. Councilor Mitch Green floated using some funds from the Portland Clean Energy Fund (PCEF) to support regional transit authority TriMet, which is facing major cuts.
