On this edition of KBOO News in Depth:
Autonomous Vehicles (AVs), could be coming to Oregon sometime soon. State lawmakers heard a bill on Monday that would allow AVs to operate in the state, including companies that offer robo-taxis, like Waymo and Tesla. The bill would pre-empt, or ban, cities from making their own regulations on these companies. That's got some cities, including Portland, concerned. The city submitted testimony against the bill, HB 4085.
At Monday's Portland City Council Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, leaders at the Bureau of Transportation shared their research into AVs, and a new set of suggested rules for these robo-taxi companies, should they come to Portland.
